A Day At The Desert

I watched the dagger flaot back to Marcuse. I looked to Shadow, "umm... I didn't do that. The one they call Marcuse did it." I said watching them ride away. "What were those things they were riding? They looked like Unicorns without horns." I said to Shadow creeping out of the bushs and shook hard. "Man I forgot how ichy those dang bushs were!" I said iching and scratching myself.

I looked at Craz. "Really?? There are types of slayers like dragons?" I asked a little confused. I just knew I didn't do it. I didn't really know anything about slayers, I tried to ignore them completely. I looked at Craz. "I have heard of those. SOme kind of mutant unicorn I think," I said. (haha that made me lol. mutant unicorn) I looked to Craz and siled. It didn't really bother me, so I used my tail and scratched her back for her.

I laughed slightly. "All slayers are like dragons, the two with red hair could make fire at will and the boy with white hair could do the same with wind and the Dark haired boy could control darkness." I said to him, still jumping in circles to ich. I sighed in releaf, "thank you" I said to Shadow. I sighed again, "the slayers blood was long ago mixed with dragons and then they ended up having the smae clans as us with the same powers" I explained to Shadow.

I listened curiously. "Hm.... I didn't know they were as good as us," I said looking back in the direction they ran off to. If they were so good and so similiar to us, why did they hunt us? IT was pretty pointless to me. I laughed at Craz. "Yeah, no problem," I said with a smirk. I looked to Craz a little questionably. How did she know all this stuff? Well she was friends with Vidalia, and it seemed as though she knew alot about alot. I just shrugged and looked up into the trees wondering when the other dragons would come down. I was actually in a good mood somehow.

I shrugged. "Guess they are. Their just in human form and have pretty wicked tattoos too." I said to him. "They have a pretty cool history really. They've been hunted and burned as witches cause of their powers." I said to him, I was always fascinated with the history of things. Slayers were very interesting to learn about. "No one knows why they hunt us, but Ever has made a few rules for them and they have agreed to follow them as best they can. She told them if we attack they are free to fight back but they said if we even think about attacking then they will defend themselves before they have too." I said, I had been hiding in the cave listening when Ever had made the treating with the clan leaders. It would have to be renewed now that all the new crest holders had been selected. "The weapons they carried are their family crests" I said matter-of-fact. "They are givin' the crest on their sixteenth birthday and then the old crest holder is taken to be tested on his loyalty to his kind." I explained to Shadow. "The Fire Clan and the Darkness Clan are the strongest and all the other clans listen to them. I'm guessing that's why the one girl has to marry the darkness boy. They also all have one of those weird Unicorn things, they have a different kind of bond with them. I think their called horses? But I'm not sure Ever knows what they are called, but I guess you know a lot when you've lived for 2000 years." I said speaking was actually one of my talents I had figured out not long ago. "Oh yeah and for some reason they can't kill the same type of dragon they are. Like the fire ones can't bring themselves to kill a fire dragon and that is why I think Marcuse stopped the dagger from hitting me, he is a Darkness and that means his powers come from us." I said to Shadow I heard some of the tree dragon hit the ground close to us. They were small but I never attacked them cause they had a scream that could blow out your ear drums.

Flash flicked his head to the side before landing close to the dragons he was interested in what Craz was saying. Clover was standing next to him her head cocked to the side slightly.

I nodded and kind of smiled. I was kind of getting interested in them. When she told me why Marcuse stopped the dagger from hitting us, I smiled more. "Wish I could have seen them closer," I said thoughtfully. I looked at the tree dragons come to the ground and I flattened my ears a little. I was always afraid of their screams. They were horrible with it too. Especially the other day when I chased them around. It was funny but I was surprised my ear drums didn't fall out right then.

"Yeah they have really neat tattoos on their faces." I said to him. "Weird thing about their tattoos their born with them, that's why not one slayer has the same tattoo design on their face," I said to him. I glanced to where the Tree Dragons were hiding. I grinned I knew ones scent it was Flash. "Flash you better not let Vidaila catch you, she'll have you hid!" I called to him with a laugh.

Flash cringed at Craz's words. "She already did yesterday" he said with a chuckle. He was still pulling thorns out of his face, neck and shoulders. Vidaila snarled and jumped out of a tree. "You little worthless wretch!" She snapped her jaws at him. She hatted Flash, she looked to Clover and nodded. She liked CLover she always stayed away from the Earth Dragons and never played tricks on her.

Shadow nodded, listening to Craz. It was a little wierd. What if they ran out of tattoo designs? Shadow laughed silently to himself for thinking so stupidly. Shadow laughed a little evilly when Vidalia jumped out of the tree and yelled at Flash, relaxing a bit more. Shadow kind of liked Flash, he was a mischief maker. Like Shadow. But he was still just a worthless annoying little tree dragon. With the most annoying scream ever. Just for the fun of it, Shadow reached over and pulled a thorn out of Flash's shoulder. Before Flash could make a noise Shadow shot a glare at them. "You better not scream, or it will be the last one you ever make." Shadow knew thorns hurt like crud when they were pulled out, but atleast it wasn't one of those things that was in Shadow's shoulder.

I chuckled when Shadow pulled the thorn out Flash's shoulder. Flash snarled at Shadow but didn't scream. "Why Vidalia thorns" he snorted like he was trying not to laugh in her face. "You know they don't fas me like they do you" he said smirking. "Oh really, then what about this" she said calmly making the thorns grow and stab deeper into his scales. Flash lifted his lips and hissed a screechy hiss at her. He looked off to the side where a vine was sitting. I had to laugh out loud at what he did next. He whipped it over and it snapped Vidalia in the butt. "Ouch!" She snarled at him, she glared at me for laughing. I chuckled, "Earth Dragons have no sense of humor, I wonder if earth slayers are as grumpy as Earth Dragons?" I said to one really. "Craz you wouldn't be laughing if you crawled into your den and got a face full of two foot thorns! And one got stuck in my eye! It took me three hours to get it out!" Vidalia snapped at me and I laughed again. "And hes still alive?" I asked her. Clover chuckled at her brother being stabbed with thorns. She wasn't as much a joker as him but she had a good sense of humor like all Tree Dragons. I could hear all the snickers and chuckles of Flash's clan up in the trees.

Shadow laughed. "Nice Flash," Shadow said with a smile not even listening to Vidalia. "But that's not nice to do to girls," Shadow said with an evil smile, he pulled out one of the thorns slowly, and took yet another one out, but not before he 'accidentally' dug it a bit deeper. Shadow looked to Vidalia a little angrily. Going away for tthousands of years could definitely match that. No it couldnt. It would definitely beat that.

Craz chuckled again. Flash jumped when Shadow pulled out more throns. "Ya know what Shadow stop doing that" he said in his high pitched voice, he got that voice when he was trying not to yell at some one. He looked back just in time to see tree limb whack him into a tree. Vidalia and Craz laughed smacked the ends of their tails together. "Good work girl" Craz said happily, Flash shook his head. "Nice one. Okay I hit you with a vine and you use a tree!" He said with a smile on his face. Good thing about Tree Dragons they didn't mind being the blunt of jokes. Clover stepped up next to Flash, "brother I think you should stop while your ahead" she said with a smirk.

Shadow flattened his ears when Flash used his high pitched voice. "Don't do th-" He stopped short when the tree limb whacked him against the tree, and Shadow laughed like crazy when it happened. "Well, now you know it's better for everyone if you don't use that high-pitch voice, or your annoying little pranks," Shadow said with with a small smirk.

Craz chuckled and then burst out laughing at Shadow laughing so much. Flash shook off and looked at Vidaila snarling. He was getting annoyed slightly, only cause his whole clan was up in the trees laughing at him. "Shut up! Or you'll have night duty!" He snapped up at his clan he was the leader and had the power to do that. They all shut up, they didn't want to be out at night with the Darkness Dragons. He twisted roots up and around Vidaila's feet planting her in place. "Try and throw me into a tree now" he snickered at her. She snorted and a good size rock whacked him in the head. "Ouch! Cheater!" He said to her. Clover laughed, "just cause you can only use trees doesn't mean she can't use the rest of the earth." She said with a smirk and the rest of the clan snickered again. They all heard a shrill laugh and then a dragon with half moon scales dropped out of the trees. It was Lacy another one of Flash's sisters and she loved pranks as much as him. She smiled and hit Craz with a vine making her jump and squeak. "Lacy you ever do that to me again I'll kill you!" She snapped at the small female. Lacy laughed, "it wasn't me it must have been Flash." She said darkly.

Shadow smiled when they all shut up. They were scared of the darkness dragons. He crouched low, he was almost going to leap up into the tree pretending to attack, but then stopped remembering their horrid scream. He flattened his ears to his head. He looked to lacy. When there was two prankers around, it was fine. But this many was just too much. It slightly annoyed Shadow. He sat back on his haunches, clearly wearing a bored expression. He glanced at his shoulder. It looked a little better now, but still. It kinda hurt.

Craz cursed under her breath, mostly words about Lacy that should have made the air blister. "Come on Shadow, before I do something rash" She said with a few more cures. Darkness dragon may think its funny to do things to others but when it was done to them they kinda went postal. "Besides its only four hours before our job starts. And I want to get some sleep" she hissed leaving the space to fly off back to the caves. Mostly she wanted Shadow to sleep cause when dragons slept they healed faster. The others went on to bicker until Flash told them back to the dens before dark got there.

Shadow nodded to Craz and nodded a quick good-bye to the other dragons and took off after Craz. Even in the distance he could hear the other dragons arguing until Flash told them off. He snorted and flew as fast as he could without hurting his shoulder too much. When he landed in the cave he folded one wing over the wound as much as he could trying to make sure none of the other dragons saw it. He didn't want to drag attention to himself. HE walked off to the back of the cave and layed down weary-eyed, staring off into sleep until his eyes slowly closed and his breath slowed to a steady, even pace.

Craz landed in the cave and followed Shadow. She saw the glances from the rest of clan. He lefted her lips to show her long fangs and warn the others to stay at the front of the cave. They all listened. Craz looked at Shadow he was sleeping and his breathing was easy and smooth. She walked over and layed down she was about three feet away from Shadow. She watched the cave for about a hour before she finally fell into a deep sleep.

Shadow woke up three hours later. It was almost time for their night job, they had about another half hour. Shadow sat up and stretched his wings, yawning a tongue curling yawn. He looked at his shoulder to see how it hd healed. It felt a whole lot better, but it looked like it would leave a scar. He sighed just happy that it was less noticable now. But some dragons would probably still find out. He shrugged it off and looked to Craz. He tapped her gently with one of his claws. "We have to go soon," He whispered. He looked over at the dragons. He padded over to a female around Shadow's age and a male just about one hundred years younger. He kind of wanted to be alone with Craz for awhile more, so he would probably do seperate groups for the night job.

Craz felt a growl rumble in the back of her throat. She stood up and streached and flushed her wings full of blood it was the only way for them to warm their bodies after a long sleep. She stood up and followed to the front of the cave. Another dragon dumped into her and she snarled at him. "What what your doing! You little wretch!" She snapped at him, almost catching the skin on his face. She plopped down on the ground and layed her head on her hands watching the rest of the dragons. "Could this cave be anymore boring and annoying?" She asked out loud.

Shadow watched Craz snap at the other dragon and couldn't help but chuckle to himself. HE padded up to Craz. "Not really," I said to Craz. I turned. The other two dragons were with us now. "Tonight we are going to seperate while guarding. You two go one way, and Craz and I will go the other," he explained to them. They nodded and flew away together. "Ready to go?" Shadow asked Craz. He knew she most likely wasn't, but oh well.

Craz growled when she heard Shadow chuckle. She snorted and stood up again. "I forgot how the sun makes us even more ticked." She hissed in anger, being out in the sun to long tended to boil their blood a little hotter then it already boiled. She looked at Shadow and showed her long canines, "I'm mad as hell of course I'm ready." She hissed flying out of the cave before Shadow had time to react.

Shadow laughed. Craz's annoyance was just making him happier. He didn't really blame her though, when he was even a little annoyed his eyes grew wider then they were. They were wide right now, but Craz's annoyance helped him not snap. He rolled his blinding white eyes and darted out of the cave, soon catching up to Craz.

Craz hissed as Shadow came up to her side. "No more day trips." She seethed out like the annoyed ticked off dragon that she was. "I forgot how much daylight weakens us." She spat in dusgust and flying faster. Her eyes were slits that just looked like white lines instead of eyes. "Now where are we going tonight?" She asked a little shortly.

Shadow nodded. "I actually agree with that," he said with a small half-smile. He flew faster to match her pace, and shrugged without looking at her. "Wherever you want, sweetheart," he said exaggerating the last part. Her attitude was starting to rub off on Shadow.

Craz hissed. Two hours of sleep was not enough for a Darkness Dragon. She glanced at him and growled deep in her throat. She was extra angry this night and she was pretty sure it was cause she couldn't protect Shadow earlier that day, even if she couldn't have it was still eating at her like a thorn stuck in her gums. "No where where we will get into a fight. I can barley hold onto my rage as it is." She seethed with another deep growl. "One thing says anything to me I'll kill it." She hissed with a deadly seriousness.

Shadow caught the serious tone of her voice but ignored it. "Well, we'll just have to stay high in the sky then," he said nodding down below. He hadn't even known it, but they were in the desert, where the dust dragons lived. Shadow hissed at the sand and flew up higher. He wasn't going to get another wound tonight, not if he could help it.

Craz snorted and growled. "How the hell did we get over the Desert." She hissed going higher over the land. I flicked my ear when I heard a whistle and I flicked my tail finally feeling slightly happy. "Dawn!" I said just as a girl with black feather wings landed on my back. "Hey Craz ol'girl." She said patting my neck. Dawn was my whisper she would fight at my side till one of us died. She had straight black hair, black feather wings with light blue eyes. If she had been human she would have been considered extreamly beautiful.
